Bodega Can Pizà

Bodega Can Pizà is a small organic winery and part of the Son Maiol estate. A warm welcome awaits you, after which you will learn about the estate and its two restored farmhouses among acres of pine, almond and olive trees. Once the home of the miller, the finca, situated in the heart of the vineyards, is surrounded by a wild and romantic array of olive groves, small pine woods, and holm oaks. From here, you will be able to enjoy a splendid view over the Tramuntana Mountains and the beautiful Bay of Palma. While walking this unspoiled rural regions of the island, you will be pleasantly surprised and intrigued by the aromas coming from the surrounding fields and land. You will of course also be shown the vineyard, where a variety of native grapes is being tended to.

As well as making excellent wines, what the family excels at is welcoming visitors to the estate to tell them more about the Bodega. Pizà is the surname of the family and the origin of the name comes from the ancient people of Pisa, Italy, who settled in Mallorca in the 12th century.  Genuine recipients of an ancient tradition brought to the island 2000 years ago by the Romans, the family is proud to bring you a taste of the noble art of winemaking. The Finca has been the home of the Pizà family since 1679.

The family is known for their organic ethos and have all the wine labels printed with ecological ink. The bottle caps are free of heavy metals, enabling the vineyard to be environmentally committed to build a sustainable future. Bodega Can Pizà is a certified organic winery and as part of a generation of modern, environmentally committed wineries in Mallorca, they work hard to build a more sustainable future. No pesticides are used in their fields and the fertilizer they use is manure from our own animals. All wines are clarified with natural products in order to be better and healthier at the same time.

Food and wine tasting at Bodega Can Pizà

After touring the seven hectares of vineyards with a variety of native grapes, such as Mantonegro, Fogoneu, Giró Ros and Escursach, it is time to enjoy the wines. Before the tasting begins, you will be shown the tasteful finca and given detailed information about the wine making process. Then it is off to the garden with a stunning view to try the wine at a beautifully set table. If it gets a little chilly, you will be moved indoors where you will be welcomed by a cozy fire. Local sea salt paired with homemade extra virgin olive oil  and bread accompany the tasting, as well as a board of local cheeses with Pamboli. Your host will explain you and your friends and family everything about their own sobrasada. Residents of the Balearic Islands are proud of their distinctive red sobrasada sausage. It is made from the meat of the local porc negre, or ‘black pig’, which is related to the ibérico pig of the mainland and it is seasoned with a local paprika ground from local red peppers. The meat and the seasonings are stuffed into casings, and the sausages are then hung to cure in the open air, usually for between one month and eight months, with the timing determined by the size and shape of the casing. Although from the outside sobrasada looks like a sausage, the unique texture inside is more like a soft pâté. Your sobrasada will be served spread on homemade toast made of freshly baked Mallorquin bread. The board is complemented by a selection of Iberian ham, dried nuts and homemade grape jam. After the variety of cold tapas you will be surprised by a seasonal starter paired with the perfect white wine. How about some paella as your main dish? Or would you rather try the local lamb, pork or chicken? While you are discussing which of the nine wines is your favorite, a private flamenco show adds a special note to this already extraordinary evening. Make sure to try the Cap Salines Blue, made with 100% Prensal Blanc, one of the local grapes. These unique grapes are not to be found anywhere else in the world and a touch of organic flowers gives the wine its intense blue color. Don’t forget to bring a couple of bottles home, they make for great presents for your loved ones!
