With their snow-white beaches, crystal clear water and swaying palms, the Bahamas have an everlasting magical aura. Compromising more than 700 heavenly islands, the area is home to many tranquil pieces of paradise, with hidden harbors and dormant coastal cities to be discovered. It is a thrilling experience to be on your own private yacht and head off with your loved ones in search of adventure. Throw in the Bahama’s perpetual sunshine, and you already have an unbeatable winning combination for a yacht charter holiday!

The best kept secret of the Bahamas is the country’s sheer size and diversity. With sixteen major islands, the Bahamas is an unmatched destination, located in the world’s clearest ocean. With an almost infinite number of anchorages to discover and make your own, it will never feel crowded, wherever you go. Anchor in solitude in one of the areas we recommend and talk to your captain how to get there. Take the paddleboard out, go spearfishing, and enjoy the peace and quiet of a Bahamian sunset.

If you are looking for a slower-paced destination to really relax during your charter, leave the civilization of Nassau and head south to the Exumas. The 365 cays here are known for their laid-back way of life, and the shallow waters exclude large cruise ships, so your charter yacht holiday will take you to a place where the pristine beaches are often your own to explore and relax. Crystal clear waters beckon you to go for a swim and when doing so, keep your eyes peeled for the locals that may choose to join you – the swimming pigs.

As said many times before, it is better in the Bahamas!

Big Major Cay

Everyone considering cruising the Bahamas must have come across the pictures of adorable pigs swimming in crystal-clear water. Big Major Cay is one of the many uninhabited islands within the Bahamas. Uninhabited by people, that is, there are however some locals! The beaches are home to about 20 pigs and piglets, and they would love to welcome you to their favorite swimming spot. It is not known how the pigs and piglets got there, but on Big Major Cay, the domestic pigs love the water and swim out to meet the yachts as they arrive.

Also known as Pig Island or Pig Beach, this unique area is the place to bring your family. It is not every day you will witness pigs sharing the underwater space with the local exotic fish and sea turtles. Now you can take your own picture of these sweet pigs enjoying the turquoise sea!

Thunderball Grotto

Just a quick trip over water from Big Major Cay you will find Thunderball Grotto. This semi-submerged network of caves borrows its name from a James Bond movie, and it is a great spot to put on your bucket list and have your own picture taken! Once inside the caves, you will be mesmerized by the sights of stunning natural rock formations and kaleidoscopic shoals of fish. Located just west of Staniel Cay, this fantastic underwater cave system is great for snorkeling, diving, and even wading. It is teeming with exotic marine life and an abundance of brilliantly colored coral reefs and fish, like yellow-tail snappers, Angel fish and Sergeant Majors. The grotto’s mystique is heightened by the small, almost hidden entrance. It is advised to enter at low or slack tide. Don’t forget your snorkeling equipment and your underwater cameras, this is a destination in the Bahamas for the books!

Green Turtle Cay

Named for the many green turtles found in the area, this long, narrow island is renowned for its unique, New England–influenced architecture. The island offers outstanding beaches and plenty of amenities such as shops, restaurants and more. Also known as New Plymouth, the anchorage at Green Turtle Cay is located between the entrances to White Sound and Black Sound. The anchorage is ideal, even when the weather is a bit rougher and provides protection from the easterly winds. While Green Turtle Cay is idyllic and a perfect spot for romantic getaways, it is also a great place for family vacations. Are you in need of some souvenirs, for yourself and your loved ones at home? Visit the town of New Plymouth and its many quaint shops to find that extra special gift. The shops of New Plymouth are unique in their novelties.

No visit to Green Turtle Cay is complete without a stop at Miss Emily’s Blue Bee Bar, the birth place of the famous Goombay Smash… a delicious rum punch now found throughout the Caribbean! And be sure to pass by Ye Olde Jail while you are in town, a great photo opportunity!

Conch salad is a good way to start if you want to feel as though you are eating something healthy, that is also interesting and different. In your conch salad bowl, you will find diced conch meat with add-ons like chopped peppers, onion, tomato, salt and pepper. Everything is tossed about in a marinade made with lime, lemon, and orange juice. This colorful dish is a refreshing treat on a hot day. Can you already taste the citrus explosion of the first bite, with the sound of the waves gently lapping against your yacht?

Cracked conch is a deep fried fish dish  and also very popular in the Bahamas. The conch is sliced, battered and deep-fried to form golden, crispy strips of fish, similar to calamari or deep-fried squid. The name, cracked conch, refers to the process of pounding the conch with a mallet to tenderize and flatten it. Cracking is a strenuous activity that is critical for preparing cracked conch; conch is incredibly tough and chewy if not tenderized properly. When you are on charter in the Bahamas during the conch festival in McLean’s Town, celebrate the tradition of cracking with the locals and witness the best conch cracker being awarded a trophy! Cracked conch can be enjoyed as a main meal for lunch or dinner, where it is commonly served with peas and rice, fries, plantain or salad. It may also be served as an appetizer with just lime juice and sauces to dip.

Savannah Sound

This relatively small settlement, one of the first in the islands of the Bahamas, is situated east of Governor’s Harbour, between Palmetto Point and Tarpum Bay. It was named Windermere during its early days, and was given the name Savannah Sound, because of the large Savannah, a grassy, flat area, found in the eastern section of the settlement and the Sound on the northeastern side. Savannah Sound offers solitude, a stunning five-mile-long beach, and a protective reef just offshore teeming with fish and exotic marine life. The island has become a retreat for a number of celebrity visitors, and Savannah Sound has become known for great bonefishing because of its extensive flats and fish-rich waters.
